Best and brightest at Uplands College lauded for year’s achievements

Top achievers at Uplands College were recognised for their efforts throughout the year at the school's annual honours awards evening.

Pupils of Uplands College wore bright smiles by the end of the school’s annual honours awards evening. The school recognised pupils for the contribution to and success within Uplands College with certificates and awards.

A number of special awards were handed out:

• Sarah Pepworth of Sarah’s Brownies received the Ted Mayhew trophy for the entrepreneur of the year.

• Carlos Pessane was voted the recipient of the Marisa Longuinho Award by his grade 11 peers as the student who has exhibited friendship towards students of all ages and who has shown care and compassion for his or her peers.

• Caitlyn Cordeiro is the sportwoman and best all-round sportswoman of the year, while Chad Hawley is sportsman of the year. The best all-round sportsman of the year is Clem Murray.

• Mantombi Makubela received the Thomson Trophy for the cultural person of the year

The Arthur Gaydon-Connock Trophy for a student who has achieved considereable results in their field, set a good example on the field, helped and encouraged fellow teammates was awarded to John Smith.

• The 2015 Hyson Trophy for Endeavour is awarded to Willem Engelbrecht.

• The 2015 Tecklenburg Trophy for Good Fellowship is awarded to Shannon Dennis.

• The 2015 Goss Trophy for outstanding achievements in all facets of life at Uplands was awarded to Brandon Cordeiro.

The Academic Grade Winners were:

Grade 8 – Mischá Jacobs (86,9%)

Grade 9 – Delsya Urmson (85,8%)

Grade 10 – Carla de Kock (86,4%)

Grade 11 – Tapiwa Tarwa (90,4%)

Grade 12 (Proxime Accesit) – Brandon Cordeiro (88,02%)

Grade 12 (Dux Scholar) – Joshua Birch (89,6%)
