Umjindi traffic officers, Barberton SAPS as well as ER24 and Mpumalanga EMS were on the scene. In the interim temporary stop signs have been erected at the crossing.

The traffic lights on the corners of Crown and General streets were the main topic among bystanders at an accident scene that occurred yesterday at around 13:30. They have not been working properly for quite a while now.
The incident involved a red Toyota and a silver Volkswagen transporter double-cab pickup. According to eyewitnesses the driver of the Volkswagen was driving up General Street and proceeded over the traffic light at the intersection. At that moment the driver of the Toyota crossed Crown Street from the side of the school. This resulted in the crash. The Toyota was lifted and thrown onto the driver’s side landing in the opposite lane.
The driver of the Volkswagen sustained slight injuries. The three occupants of the Toyota were helped from their vehicle by NTT Toyota personnel and also sustained minor injuries. Umjindi traffic officers, Barberton SAPS as well as ER24 and Mpumalanga EMS were on the scene.
In the interim temporary stop signs have been erected at the crossing. Jan Jansen van Vuuren from the Traffic Department urged Barbertonians to use the intersection as a four-way-stop until repairs have been done.
