Three pupils head to Singapore to attend prestigious program

Three youngsters from the Imagine Scholar programme will soon head to Singapore for the Yale Young Global Scholars programme.

KAMHLUSHWA – Luyanda Mahlobo, a grade 11 pupil from Lovunywa Secondary School, Rodger Chinhangue, in grade 11 at Sidlamafa Secondary and Allan Phiri, in grade 10 at Sidlamafa Secondary are part of 200 youths from around the world chosen to attend this prestigious programme in May.

They have each been awarded a full bursary worth US$3 500, by the Yale University, which will enable them to attend the programme.

The Yale Young Global Scholars is an immersive week-long academic enrichment and skills-based practicum designed for outstanding high school pupils from around the world to encourage their drive, energy, vision and potential to make a meaningful impact as young leaders.

The group will have the opportunity to learn from the distinguished Yale and Yale-NUS faculty, Yale and Yale-NUS students, and practitioners, all while experiencing residential life at the state-of-the-art Yale-NUS College in Singapore.

The three Image Scholar pupils were excited and extremely thrilled about the opportunity. Some of the things they are looking forward to are interacting with pupils from other parts of the world, as well as getting the opportunity to learn different things during their stay in Singapore.

Imagine Scholar is an intensive, educational enrichment programme for high-achieving youths from the Nkomazi region. It identifies top-performing pupils in grades seven and eight who exemplify sincere character and a strong personal drive for development.

After a year-long selection process, which begins with hundreds of pupils, only 10 finalists are invited to join the four-year programme.

Participants attend activities and classes on Tuesday and Friday afternoons every week, and full days on Saturdays and Sundays.
