Pirates and mermaids are simply the best

The rivalry between pirates and mermaids made for an entertaining concert at Riverview Prep School yesterday.

Riverview Prep School’s playgroup to grade three pupils presented “Pirates vs Mermaids” to parents, friends and family.

Grannies and grandfathers of Argentum Corona had the chance to see the dress rehearsal on Tuesday morning.

The concert followed the adventures of Captain Scarypants, an aspiring pirate captain and student at a pirate high school.

When Captain Scarypants has to learn the correct way to walk the plank and freaks out when a drop of water falls on him. The group learns that he’s afraid of water because he can’t swim.

It turns out that no one else can swim and the group, after much deliberation, sails off in search of mermaids to teach them. They use an eye-eye pad and Google Maps to find the mermaids, who only decide to teach them after the pirates concede that mermaids are better than pirates.

Instead of paying the mermaids in gold and jewels, the pirates offer to pay them with an annoying parrot. The captain’s crocodile, a pet ordered because of a misunderstanding, arrives and terrifies the mermaids. The pirates save them and the mermaids state that maybe pirates are better after all.

The pirates return to their school, graduate and Captain Scarypants is top of his class.

The group parts on amicable terms, not exactly friends and not exactly enemies, but agreeing that they both love the seas.
