Math brainiacs are ready for action

Penryn College recently hosted the Lowveld team participating in the SA Mathematics Team Competition (SAMTC).

The SAMTC is a national event with more than 40 junior (grades 8 and 9) and 40 senior (grades 10-12) teams participating at various locations around the country.

The teams were selected based on the results of the second round of the SA Maths Olympiad. A young senior team with four grade 10 learners had to work their way through two tough question papers but still did themselves proud.

The junior team produced a good result beating Swaziland and the Mpumalanga team from the Highveld. They finished 20th out of 46 teams in South Africa. Everyone had an afternoon of challenging fun and learned something knew to add to their already impressive mathematical knowledge.
