The problems that were identified were high traffic volumes on the R37 and R36 next to their school, not enough pavements, lack of visibility of traffic officials.

LYDENBURG – Skhila Secondary School earned second place at the Participating Education Technique (PET) district level competition held at the University of Mpumalanga on September 3.

PET is a competition founded by the Mpumalanga Department of Roads and Transport. The topic was road safety.

Pupils had to identify problems they see in and around their schools and come up with possible answers.

The solutions had to be presented in a model which showed how the area would look after the changes had been implemented. The pupils also had to present a drama on the topic.
