Henry Uys and Samantha Sanders are the respective winners of Barberton XCM MTB challenge

Henry Uys and Samantha Sanders are the respective winners of Barberton XCM MTB challenge that took place on January 28.

Henry Uys won the Barberton XCM MTB Challenge that was held today. He took part in the 110km ultramarathon and finished in a time of 04:49:48.

Samantha Sanders crossed the finish line first in the women’s 110km race, finishing in 05:37:01.

Uys was followed by Alan Gordon with a time of 04:50:12. In the third place was Declan Sidey who completed the race in 04:57:54.

In the women category, Sanders was followed by Emily Clarke who completed the race in 06:03:05 and Anli Smith in third place with 06:25:492.

All the races started and finished at Hoërskool Barberton. The Barberton Rotary Club organised the very first of these races 21 years ago.

 The XCM challenge is today regarded as one of the toughest one-day mountain bike races in the country. It offers cyclists at various levels the opportunity to take part and prove themselves in five different events: a 20km fun ride, 30km, 48km and 77 km race and a 110km ultramarathon.
