Kids cleaning up the streets
Three youngsters took to the streets of West Acres last week to clean up the neighbourhood.

The initiative was the idea of three cousins, Hayley de Klerk and Shannon and Griffin Barry, as part of their community service for their school profiles.

Their efforts started on Dr Enos Mabuza Drive and moved towards Kaapsehoop Road, turning into Amaryllis Street, and Totius and Zebrina crescents. The trio collected approximately 20 black bags of trash with the help of a few other family members.

According to Hayley’s mother, Angela, “The children’s grandmother, Norma de Klerk, also made sure we all received refreshments and support! It was a real team effort!”

She added that the children were disgusted at what people toss onto the ground.
“They are also proud of their efforts and hard work to clean up the community,” she said.

Hayley attends Penryn College, but brother and sister, Griffin and Shannon are visiting for the school holidays, all the way from Cape Town.
