Department of Social Development addresses the roots of crime

Through the programme of Social Crime Prevention the department seeks to effectively empower communities to deal with social issues that lead to crime.

Fears of crime and perceptions of unsafe environments are addressed. The department does this work with a number of members of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Safety Cluster (JCPS) as well as communities.

Awareness campaigns are conducted in a form of Walk Against Crime and Substance Abuse in all local municipalities.

Children who are in conflict with the law are assessed. They are put into diversion programmes. The Department also funds NPOs that deliver crime prevention and support services in the Province.

The Department continue to capacitate communities on social crime prevention through partnerships. Crime prevention is everyone’s business.

Play your part in creating a society that is free of criminal activities which is in line with our slogan ‘Tfutfuka Uvikeleke’.
