Seventh-day Adventists help people keep healthy

The Seventh-day Adventist Church is promoting awareness of a basic healthy lifestyle.

On Saturday members of the church, assisted by a qualified general practitioner and advanced life support paramedic, offered free medical check-ups to the public at Jock of the Bushveld Shopping Centre.
Past Quinten Strauss said they decided to offer the free services to the public because they are a caring church.
“Today we are here to create awareness about the basic health principles such as nutrition, exercise, water, sunshine, temperature, air, rest and trusting in God. People have been coming in numbers to make use of our service and they seem to appreciate it,” said Strauss.
He said members of the public came to have medical check-ups done; body mass index, blood pressure, blood glucose level, lung capacity and blood oxygen level.
The church is in Manga Street, Barberton and services are held from 09:30 to 12:00 every Saturday.
Tibuyisle Nyalunga, one of the locals who came for the free medical services offered by the church, said their service was very helpful.
“Many of us hardly have time to do medical check-ups as we have busy schedules. Here, you can kill two birds with one stone. While you came here to do your shopping, you can also do your check-ups,” she said.

The church promised to offer such services on a regular basis. For more information, or if you require the above-mentioned services, contact Strauss on 072-516-3131.
