District strives to excel in good governance for all
With growing expectations on us by our citizens to deliver on quality services, it is of great significance that we live up to those expectations which are deeply embedded in our vision, “A district municipality striving to excel in good governance and quality infrastructure”.

To finally witness the accreditation of its laboratory for quality-water testing bears testimony to the hard work and time that has been invested by our dedicated collective leadership and management on this massive project.
This is a project spanning over 10 years, and it has not been without its mishaps and disappointments. We are witnessing the fruits of our hard labour and dedicated efforts. In 2008 we signed a memorandum of understanding with Mhlatuze Water so that they could assist us to kick-start this project.

We would like to thank them for guiding us through this turbulent journey which they made a bit easier for us. We know that our relationship will remain intact for many years to come, so that our future generations may witness the good practices of inter-governmental relations. Our district is located at the centre of our seven local municipalities which are to directly benefit from this state-of-the-art facility.

We aim to improve the quality of drinking water for our citizens and also pick up any toxic and harmful substances that could be in our water reserves in double-quick time. We also hope that Mpumalanga and our country as a whole will also benefit from this project as well as our neighbouring countries.

We are certain that finally we will, as the district, be able to reach the Blue Drop standards as set by the Department of Water and Sanitation. We are optimistic that this project will also form a pillar that will drive our economy and eradicate poverty and unemployment. We are predominantly a rural district municipality which relies heavily on water for a livelihood.

The business community forms a big part of our stakeholders and we are certain that they will continue to partner with us and also invest towards the creation of decent employment opportunities for our people. We would like to send a word of gratitude to Mhlathuze Water and the Department of Water and Sanitation for their support and all other sponsors for their assistance in achieving this enormous milestone.
