The three are twins, Bunny and Eileen Bunting (76), and Roland Jones (80).
The trio has called on the community of Barberton to be a part of this movement for a better town.
On Saturday Barberton Times visited them while they were removing tree branches.
“When citizens work together, it can have massive positive impacts. This clean-up is an excellent example of what can be achieved by working together to shape a town and a community. We are serious about creating a safe, clean and well-managed environment,” said Jones.

The trio are, however, disappointed with the low turnout of volunteers.
“When we started this clean-up, there were about 30 of us. But now we are down to three. We call more people, especially the youth, to come and join us. This is our neighbourhood and we need to take care of it. We don’t have to wait for the municipality to clean up our area,” said Bunny.
The donga runs in the vicinity of Bland, Stein and Boshoff streets.
The park, which was not only an eyesore and a health risk, was also an alleged hideout spot for criminals and other suspicious characters.
Since the clean-up started, a number of businesses have made various donations.
Several businesses continue to contribute towards this initiative.
These include Chippo’s – which is donating a hamburger and chips for each person working on site – Puma filling station gifted R1 000 diesel for the TLB, Barberton Battery – R1 000 for diesel, S&J donated a day’s free usage of their TLB, NTT Toyota Barberton gave R1 000, Barberton Rotary Club also donated R1000 and Barberton Ford, another R1 000.
The clean-up starts from 07:00 to 12:00 every Saturday. Enquiries: Jones on 083-305-5246 or follow their Facebook page – Barberton Donga Clean Up.
