Rollers triumph at prep school cross-country

Riverview Prep School wrapped up its sport for 2017 on Monday morning with the annual interhouse cross-country race.

Riverview Prep’s interhouse cross country event saw the Hornbills and Rollers face off to get the win for their house team.

The track wound through the sugar cane surrounding the school, with the different age groups completing over two, three or four kilometres.

The Rollers showed true grit and won the event, getting revenge for their defeat by the Hornbills at last week’s interhouse swimming gala.

Mom, Bridgette Vermeulen decided to support her daughter, Nadine, by running with her.

The cross-country race is a great team-building event as every child has to participate. Grade 7 pupil Lizane Corbett showed true support when she ran with grade 4 learner Simoné Cronjé, to help her finish.

The heat was fierce but three learners managed to break records. Daniel Sassenberg broke the u/10 boys record for the two kilometres with a time of 8:51 (previous record was 9:06). Kevin Forssman ran the two kilometres for u/7 boys in 9:41, breaking the previous record of 10:07, closely followed by classmate Tendani Mudai, who got second place with his record-breaking time of 9:44.
