BREAKING NEWS: DD Mabuza is new ANC deputy president

The Mpumalanga ANC chairman, David Mabuza beat his opponent, Lindiwe Sisulu for the position of deputy president of the ANC by 379 votes.

MBOMBELA – David Mabuza is the new deputy president of the ANC. He replaces newly elected president of the party, Cyril Ramaphosa.

Mabuza received 2538 votes beating his opponent, Lindiwe Sisulu by 379 votes.
The announcement was made on Monday at the party’s elective conference at Nasrec in Johannesburg. The announcement comes after a prolonged delay that had South Africans on the edge of their seats.

Mabuza had publicly endorsed Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma who lost to Ramaphosa,who received 2440 votes, by 179 votes.

Former secretary-general, Gwede Mantashe is the new chairperson of the ruling party and received 2418 votes. Free State premier, Ace Magashule takes over the position of secretary general getting 2360 votes.

Despite calls for more women in the ANC’s leadership Jessie Duarte remains the only woman in the top six by retaining her position as deputy Secretary General. Paul Mashatile beat international relations minister Maite Nkoane-Mashabane for the position of treasurer General with 2517 votes
