Call for nominations: Members of the Mpumalanga Consumer Affairs Court

Each court shall consist of five persons, namely a Chairperson, (who shall be an Attorney, Advocate, retired Magistrate or Lecturer in Law at University, with not less than 10 years cumulative experience in one or more such capacities); and five additional members with knowledge or experience of Consumer Advocacy, Economics or Commerce.

In terms of Section 15 of the Mpumalanga Consumer Affairs Act, No. 6 of 1998, No person shall be appointed or remain a member of the court if he or she is not a fit and proper person or:

• is not a citizen of the Republic residing in the Province;

• is a public servant;

• at the relevant time is, or during the preceding 12 months was an office bearer or employee of any party movement, organization or body of a party political nature;

• is an unrehabilitated insolvent;

• has at any time been convicted, whether in the Republic or elsewhere of theft, fraud, forgery or uttering a forged document, perjury , an offense under this Act or the Corruption Act, 1992 (Act No. 94 of 1992) or any offence involving dishonesty;

• has at any time been removed from office or trust on account of misconduct.

All interested parties are invited to submit written nominations for appointment to the Consumer Court within 21 days of the publication of this notice.  The nominee must clearly indicate his or her consent to be nominated by counter-signing the letter of nomination and region of preference.

The CV of the nominee must accompany the nomination. Interviews of nominees shall be open to the public. The name, telephone or fax number and address of the person who may be contacted in regard to the nomination should also be stated clearly .

Nominations close on 31 May 2018.
