Christiano accumulates the golf accolades
He plays golf most days of the week and during the holidays.
Cristiano Leoni (8) has been playing golf since the age of 18 months when his grandfather, Mitchell Anthony, put a golf club in his little hands.
Ever since, this bright little man has had a passion for golf, supported and inspired in him by Mitch. Cristiano, a grade three pupil at Uplands Preparatory School, has already achieved numerous accolades in the game.
In September 2017, at the age of only six, he ended third in his age group at the Junior African Challenge in San Lameer, where 52 countries were represented. He was caddied by his uncle, Mark Anthony, and was presented with his trophy by none other than his idol, Mark McNulty.
In July 2018 he represented South Africa in San Diego, USA, at the IMG World Junior Championships for Under 8s. In October last year SA Kids Golf had an international qualifying event for the European Championships in Scotland, which Cristiano won by 21 strokes.
He plays golf most days of the week and during the holidays with his other grandfather, Pietro Leoni.
Besides Cristiano’s absolute dedication to golf, he is also blessed with an acute academic acumen and enjoys playing with his friends and loves going to school.
- Since this article was published in the White River Post, we also learnt that Cristiano entered the SA Kids Golf International Qualifier for USA and tied first place. There was a playoff and after the third hole he duffed the ball to end second but still qualified to represent SA at the world Junior Golf Championships in America.
