CMR worker here to make a difference
A young and vibrant woman with a passion for those souls socially left behind, is now impacting our towns with the goal of a better tomorrow

Sharon Makofane (25), a social worker and part of the team at the Christian Social Council, also known as the CMR in Burgersfort, is passionate about her work at this non-profit organisation.
She completed her honours degree in 2015 and obtained a masters in social work in 2018 through the University of Limpopo. She works passionately with children, families and communities. She has been part of the CMR team since November 2016.
CMR Limpopo-East has four offices in other towns and the neighbouring office in Lydenburg provides similar services.
The Burgersfort office consists of the director Dr Susan Louw, the supervisor Ms Deborah Nkobane, social worker Sharon Makofane and a committee with Rev Johan Koen from the Dutch Reformed Church as the chairman.
Social work services rendered include:
• Services to children and families in the form of family preservation, social relief of distress, counselling and therapy. Services to older persons, persons with disabilities, persons infected and affected by HIV/Aids. Substance abuse prevention and victim empowerment, statutory (court) services such as foster care services, parenting plans, adoption services and reunification services and early childhood development services.
• Currently Makofane is running a skills development group at Calvin College for grade eight and nine girls.
As a non-profit organisation CMR Burgersfort also relies on donations from the community. The team would like to thank Eastern Chrome Mine for donating an office to the organisation.
“We call upon any other companies who would like to assist the CMR with donations ranging from food, clothes, stationery to any other form of donation, to contact the social worker or chairman.
The social worker is based at the Dutch Reformed Church in Burgersfort (Tuesdays to Fridays) and at the AGS Church in Steelpoort every Monday from 07:30 to 16:00.
