Hazyview wins rugby battle against Nelspruit
Havyview will play their first 2019 Phakisa Mayors' Reserve League match against the Rooikatte II at Laerskool Numbi tonight (Friday April 26) at 19:00.
Hazyview Rugby Club won a thriller against Nelspruit III at Nelspruit Rugby Club’s friendly rugby day at Kudu Park last Saturday. The victory could have gone either way but the visitors from Hazyview dug that little deeper and claimed the win, 21-14.
Hazyview battled in the line-outs but dominated the scrums. Both teams were keen to run the ball but the ball handling sometimes let them down.
The difference between the two teams was that Hazyview outscored the home team by three tries to two. Number 8 Frans Holtshausen, lock Neels du Preez and centre Juan Mazibeni scored three well-deserved tries for Hazyview. Wayden Maritz had packed his favourite kicking boots in his tog bag and converted all three tries.
For Nelspruit right wing, Ulrich Odendaal and full back Thulani Khoza scored tries. Hazyview were the better team but there were still traces of pre-season rust. But they played with extreme pride and passion and the strong team spirit was evident in the way the players encouraged each other during the 80 minutes.
