Man found guilty for smuggling illicit goods

The Barberton Magistrate’s Court  convicted Sibusiso Malwane (29) on Thursday , for Contravening Customs and Excise Act – possession of Illicit and counterfeit goods.

MBOMBELA –Hawks spokesman Capt Dineo Sekgotodi said  Malwane was arrested on May 2, at N4 Nkomazi Toll Plaza following a disruptive operation by the Hawks’ team after information was received about a Toyota Hilux bakkie that was reportedly transporting illicit goods.

“The vehicle was stopped and searched resulting in 1 242 counterfeit Adidas tracksuits were found and confiscated, Malwane was then arrested on the spot.”

The court sentenced Malwane to R30 000.00 or 48 months imprisonment, wholly suspended for 3 years. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has been forfeited to the state.
