Steelpoort’s bodybuilder to represent Limpopo in national championships.

He advised those doing bodybuilding not to use supplements. "Some of them have side-effects and are addictive. I live under the principle of a clean diet and hard work in the gym."

STEELPOORT – Can a country boy lift the trophy at the South African National Championships for bodybuilding tomorrow in Kempton Park?

If points were being accumulated for being humble and well mannered, Steelpoort’s Chegofatso Patrick Moratho (30) will do just that.

Moratho will represent Limpopo in the competition. While most of his peers are glued to their TV sets watching soccer, rugby or cricket, he is in the gym lifting weights. “My love of this sport dates back to my school days. Growing up, I would watch my big brother lift weights. He did that to keep fit and healthy. That is when I fell in love with the sport.”

While at university he continued practising and also joined the bodybuilding team at the Tshwane University of Technology. This athlete has won various provincial titles in bodybuilding.

He told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that he is determined to succeed in the sport.

Originally from Ga-Mashashane, he currently resides at Tukakgomo and also trains there.

To prepare for the event, he follows a strict diet and a very intense training program. “I follow a diet six weeks before competitions that includes protein, carbohydrates, sodium and fats and eat various meals daily. I also spend three hours a day in the gym, on weekends I do some 600- to 800-metre sprinting.”

His breakthrough in bodybuilding happened in 2016.

“I started competing for professional federations and my first show was with the International Fest Bodybuilding South Africa (IFBBSA). I competed for Musclemania SA in September 2018 and qualified to go to Las Vegas.” Due to financial challenges, he couldn’t travel to the States.
