226 suspects arrested during SAPS operation

The suspects were arrested for murder, attempted murder, possession of drugs, theft and public drinking. Forty-five undocumented foreigners were also nabbed.

BURGERSFORT – A total of 226 suspects were arrested in Tubatse during the Limpopo SAPS’s Operation Swara Tsotsi (arrest a criminal) on Friday. In a previous issue, Steelburger/Lydenburg News warned that the operation was soon to be orchestrated in town.

As early as 06:00, the SAPS had already assembled at the Tubatse Crossing Mall. They were led by Limpopo’s transport and community safety MEC, Dickson Masemola.

Masemola said they conducted roadblocks and stop-and-search operations, as well as visiting businesses and tracing wanted suspects.

“When we leave this place today, it must never be the same. Those criminals who thought they have found refuge in Tubatse, must know we are here to close their space.

“When we are gone, other operations will continue to curb crime in Tubatse. We want to see people living in peace and harmony,” said Masemola.

He emphasised that Operation Swara Tsotsi will continue to be conducted across all districts of the province.Provincial SAPS commissioner, Gen Nneke Ledwaba, applauded the operation’s effectiveness and said that plans to clamp down on hotspots are already in place.

The suspects were arrested for murder, attempted murder, possession of drugs, theft and public drinking. Forty-five undocumented foreigners were also nabbed.

SAPS also managed to recover two stolen vehicles, 127 traffic summons were issued on the day and seven vehicles impounded. All the suspects have appeared before courts in and around Sekhukhune.
