The truck driver fled the scene of the accident, despite attempts by road-users and eyewitnesses to bring it to a standstill.

LYDENBURG – A chrome carrier truck which apparently failed to stop at a stop sign ran over a 16-year-old high-school learner this afternoon at 19h00.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck allegedly ignored a stop sign in Voortrekker Street, when Tiaan Swiegers was crossing the road.

He was taken to Lydenburg Hospital by bystanders. Swiegers is awaiting a helicopter transfer to Milpark Hospital, Johannesburg.
Rapid Response and Netcare 911 is at the hospital ensuring Swiegers stays stable for the transfer.
He is stable, yet serious. The truck driver fled the scene of the accident, despite attempts by road-users and eyewitnesses to bring it to a standstill.
