Four appear in court on fraud and theft charges

The accused appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court on Friday where they were charged.

Four accused, Lucy Andrea du Pree (50), John Avent (53), Piet Albertus Meintjies (36) and Maria Antoinette le Roux (49) were arrested by members of the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit on Thursday for alleged fraud and theft.

Hawks spokesman, Capt Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said, “The main accused,Carol Ann Avent (46), who was employed at Transco CC in Nelspruit, created false beneficiaries and paid money from the company into the different accounts of her family members between 2010 and 2016 to the amount of R11,5 million,” she said.

The accused were arrested and charged on Friday for allegedly receiving the stolen money into their personal bank accounts. They appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court.

The case was postponed to November 5 for adding accused who also allegedly received the stolen money. All the four accused were released on R3 000 bail each.
