Central United FC, a soccer team from Modikwa Montrose, is flying the South African flag high. The team was crowned the winner of the International Football Tournament hosted in Maseru, Lesotho, recently.

The tourney involved teams from South Africa, Lesotho, eSwatini and Botswana. It was the second consecutive year the team competed in this annual tournament.

“The tournament was divided in two groups. Each group had three teams. We managed to top our group and qualified for the finals,” said the team’s chairman and player, Protus Sikhakhane.

The local team were victorious in the finals. They defeated Mashadi Masters 4-2 in penalties. The teams drew 2-2 in 90 minutes of play.

“We were prepared this year. In 2018 we were eliminated in the semi-finals. We worked hard to be champions of 2019,” Sikhakhane said.
