Crackdown in town sees 42 arrested by Nelspruit police

The police effected a number of arrests during the course of the weekend in a bid to clamp down on crime.

The Nelspruit police clamped down on crime over the weekend, with 42 arrests for various offences. The crime prevention operation ran from last Friday and was concluded on Sunday.

According to the Nelspruit police spokesman, Capt Zandile Gqawa, four people were arrested after being found in possession of illegal drugs, while 28 people were arrested for drinking in public, and a further ten arrests were effected for contravening the Road Traffic Act, possession of suspected stolen goods, speeding, selling liquor without a liquor licence, shoplifting, drunken driving and illegal gambling.

The Nelspruit Police Station commander, Brig Prince Ngobeni, thanked the community for their cooperation during the weekend’s operations. The Nelspruit SAPS can be contacted on 013-759-1008 and all criminal activities can be reported on 0800-10111.
