Motorists arrested in Tubatse for flouting lockdown measures

According to Victor Lekwadu, Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality's chief traffic officer, as of Tuesday, 35 motorists had been taken into custody.

 

More than 30 motorists have been arrested for not complying with the Covid-19 coronavirus lockdown measures in Tubatse.

 

According to Victor Lekwadu, Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality’s chief traffic officer, as of Tuesday, 35 motorists had been taken into custody.

“Traffic officers in town are out in full force on the local roads during the lockdown to ensure drivers adhere to the regulation measures,” said Lekwadu.

Speaking to Steelburger/Lydenburg News he indicated that road safety is a top priority during this period. “We will not tire or relent in our campaign to make our roads safer,” he said.

He added that the arrested drivers will appear in the local courts in May. “Most of them are taxi drivers who did not comply. We have impounded their vehicles and they are out on free bail.”
