MEC urges Sassa beneficiaries to adhere to all Covid-19 regulations

The Sassa will be paying out grants to older persons and people living with disabilities today and tomorrow to avoid overcrowding and long queues.

BURGERSFORT- Limpopo MEC for Social development Nkakareng Rakgoale has urged beneficiaries of the  South African Social Security Agency (Sassa)  receiving their payments to adhere to Covid-19 regulations and social- distancing.

The Sassa will be paying out grants to older persons and people living with disabilities today and tomorrow to avoid overcrowding and long queues.

The department confirmed that money for other beneficiaries will only be paid in their accounts from May 6.

MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale has urged residents to adhere to social-distancing .

“This time SASSA has taken a decision to pay grants a few days into the month of May, to ensure older persons and people living disabilities do not mix with everybody who will be rushing to buy groceries at retail stores.

“We are continuing to urge our people to adhere to the Disaster Management Act Regulations. Change of behavior among all South Africans is important and everyone should practice the following hygiene steps : Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or hand sanitizers for at least 20 seconds,always cover your nose and mouth with a mask or scarf when you are in a public place and keep social- distancing. ”

Rakgoale added, ” Recipients of grants must always note that money will always be in their accounts beyond the said dates.

“This is our contribution to ensure that the vulnerable people of our society are not exposed to the coronavirus.”
