13 miners diagnosed with Covid-19 at Marula Platinum Mine

"In the last 24 hours Limpopo recorded 15 Covid-19 cases and 13 are from Marula mine."

BURGERSFORT – Thirteen miners were diagnosed with Covid-19 at Marula Platinum Mine in Driekop yesterday.

This includes three staff at the mine’s clinic. The clinic is currently being sanitized and cleaned.

Limpopo MEC for health Dr Phophi Ramathuba confirmed that Covid-19 cases in Limpopo have increased to 76.

Ramathuba was speaking to members of the media earlier today in Polokwane.

She said the mine has temporarily suspended operations and the clinic has been shut since Wednesday.

“In the last 24 hours Limpopo recorded 15 Covid-19 cases and 13 are from Marula Platinum Mine. ”

According to the MEC, most were asymptomatic and were caught during the screening process before they entered the operations.

To date, Limpopo has recorded 76 accumulative cases as follows: 36 active cases, 37 recoveries  and three fatalities.

The Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) has so far recorded 22 coronavirus cases and one fatality.
