Ramaila concerned about the increase of Covid-19 cases in Tubatse

“We’re pleading with our communities in the area to be extremely vigilant, at the same time we call on the mines to increase their health and safety protocols."

BURGERSFORT – The Sekhukhune Covid-19 District Command Council (DCC) said  they were worried by the rapid increase of infection cases in Tubatse.

Today’s data from the provincial Health Department indicates  that Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) has 24 active cases, up from the 13 recorded yesterday.

Marula Platinum Mine recorded 13 Covid-19 cases on Saturday.

Executive mayor  Stanley Ramaila, who’s the chairperson of the District Command Council, expressed the concerns.
“We’re extremely worried by the fact that our district is rapidly becoming the epicenter in the province,” said Ramaila.

“Evidently, mines in the district are the breading ground for the coronavirus because all these active infections were recorded in the Eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex,” added the mayor.

SDM mayor Stan Ramaila.

In all the four local municipalities in the district, only Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality has active positive cases.

“We’re pleading with our communities in the area to be extremely vigilant, at the same time we call on the mines to increase their health and safety protocols.

“Among other things, mines must screen, test and quarantine all the workers for at least 14 days in terms of the agreement reached when they briefed the district command council about their preparedness to resume operations.”
