Covid-19: Mpumalanga records 187 new confirmed cases and 25 more deaths as of August 17
South Africa has recorded 589 886 confirmed infections, according to an announcement by the minister of health, Dr Zweli Mkhize, on Monday, August 17. A total of 21 403 of those cases have been reported in Mpumalanga.

According to data released by the Mpumalanga Department of Health, there have been 18 861 recoveries and 214 deaths to date.
The number of positive cases in the province can be broken down as follows:

Ehlanzeni District
• Bushbuckridge: 578 cases, 500 recoveries and five deaths
• City of Mbombela: 3 467 cases, 2 883 recoveries and 24 deaths
• Nkomazi: 1 585 cases, 1 399 recoveries and four deaths
• Thaba Chweu: 299 cases, 263 recoveries and one death.
Gert Sibande District
• Chief Albert Luthuli: 582 cases, 514 recoveries and five deaths
• Dipaliseng: 301 cases and 284 recoveries
• Dr Pixely Ka Isaka Seme: 759 cases, 679 recoveries and 11 deaths
• Govan Mbeki: 2 983 cases, 2 639 recoveries and 24 deaths
• Lekwa: 937 cases, 851 recoveries and 27 deaths
• Mkhondo: 408 cases, 339 recoveries and 14 deaths
• Msukaligwa: 1 231 cases, 1 080 recoveries and 28 deaths.
Nkangala District
• Dr JS Moroka: 313 cases, 286 recoveries and four deaths
• eMakhazeni: 301 cases, 255 recoveries and 10 deaths
• eMalahleni: 4 632 cases, 4 214 recoveries and 27 deaths
• Steve Tshwete: 2 046 cases, 1 761 recoveries and 14 deaths
• Thembisile Hani: 558 cases, 514 recoveries and 12 deaths
• Victor Khanye: 423 cases, 400 recoveries and four deaths.
