Lanies win Interprimary 2022

Laerskool Malelane was victorious at the 2022 Interprimary that was hosted by Laerskool Graskop on Friday February 25.

The school’s athletes won a total of 48 medals consisting of 16 gold, 10 silver and 22 bronze medals.

Lanies were the top athletic school at the annual athletic meeting in which primary schools from Komatipoort, Hazyview, Sabie, Graskop and two schools from Limpopo, Laerskool Steelpoort and Laerskool Burgersfort, competed.

Some Lanie athletes stood out by making their mark in more than one athletic item throughout the challenging day. Nonthando Mahlalela took the gold in the girls’ u/12 150 metres with a time of 22,72, received another gold for running a time of 26,20 in the 150-metres hurdles, a silver for 75-metres hurdles with a time of 14,53 and a bronze for sprinting the 100 metres in 15,12.

Megan Lourens collected four medals for her school, three bronze for her running and one gold that she obtained for jumping 4.01 metres in the girls’ u/12 long jump. She ran the 150 metres in 23,40, the 75-metre hurdles in 14,68 and the 150-metre hurdles in 27 seconds.

Fresh talent awarded the school with two gold medals as Flourish Olaifa won the girls’ u/7 80 metres with a time of 13,91 and the 60 metres in 10,36. Luan Small achieved gold, silver and bronze medals in the three items in which he participated. He won the boys’ u/12 150-metre hurdles in 23,81, came in second in the 150 metres with a time of 21,22 and came in third in the long jump with a distance of 4,24 metres.
