Curro Nelspruit wins national Curro Create competition
Curro Nelspruit took home several awards alongside winning the coveted best production of the year award.
Curro Nelspruit recently brought pride to the Lowveld after being awarded the best production in the Curro Create National Youth Theatre Festival Winners’ primary school category.

Curro beat some stiff competition and put on a most spectacular show on Saturday October 8. The school took home several awards alongside winning the coveted best production of the year award.
There were 16 participating productions within the competition, including Curro Nelspruit’s production Onsigbaar.

The play is about a bullied primary schoolgirl who sets out to win the annual science fair while attempting to deal with
the pain and unresolved trauma that continues to plague her.
“All 16 productions blew the adjudicators’ socks off with their immense talent and professional approach to theatre making,” said Curro Nelspruit.

The school also saw Onsigbaar’s main star, Leilah du Plessis, win best actress in the primary school category.
The school was awarded gold in the following: set design, costume and make-up, ensemble, directors and handling of technical aspects.

The following learners were awarded silver for their participation in the production: Gustav Kruger, Luhan Kruger and Shayna Lea.
Bronze awards went to the following learners: Nelius Janse van Vuuren, Cionette Potgieter, Ntsumi Malungana, Mignon Swart, Matthys van Niekerk, Jané van Immerzeel, Jean Eksteen, Maya de Vries, Lwando Moyane, Ashlee-Jade Repinga, Yunne Magaia, Hazel Nkambule, Asante Repinga and Dawid Moller.
