Suspect arrested in Matsulu for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition

The suspect is also linked to the murder case of the late Colonel Beauty Marivate, the former station commander of Elukwatini.

A male suspect (44) was arrested in Matsulu at about 03:00 on Friday September 1 for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the suspect was arrested by members of the Mpumalanga SAPS’s Provincial Task Team.

During his arrest, the police suspected he could be one of the suspects sought for the murder of Colonel Beauty Marivate, the Elukwatini SAPS’s former station commander. Marivate was fatally shot when she was responding to a business robbery incident in Elukwatini on December 30, 2021.

Meanwhile, as for the murder case of Colonel Marivate, the suspect in that matter is expected to appear in the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court soon, once further investigations are completed.
