Skukuza Safari Lodge dining hall evacuated after roof fire

Guests were safely evacuated from Skukuza Safari Lodge after a fire damaged the dining hall roof.

Skukuza Safari Lodge guests were evacuated from the restaurant’s dining hall on October 29 after part of the roof caught fire.

No one was harmed, and SANParks confirmed that a temporary dining hall has been set up with back-up systems for guests.

Emergency services managed to extinguish the flames, resulting in only partial roof damage. Teams have been deployed to assist with clean-up and repairs.

“SANParks and AHA [the owners of the lodge] extend their gratitude to the Skukuza Airport and SANParks emergency response teams, as well as the Bushbuckridge Fire Brigade, for their swift response and assistance, which helped manage the situation,” said JP Louw, SANParks’ head of communications.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, and investigations are ongoing.
