Four people die in accident on R40 near Hazyview

Four people died in a crash near Hazyview earlier this morning, July 22. All of them were declared dead on the scene. The road has since been reopened.

Four people were killed in a head-on collision between a light delivery vehicle (LDV) and a SUV on the R40 near Hazyview on Monday morning, July 22.

Three of the victims were occupants of the SUV and the fourth victim was the LDV’s driver. All the victims were declared dead by the paramedics on the scene.

According to a spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, the deceased includes two adult males and two females. “The cause of the crash is not yet known at the moment. However, it is suspected that one of the drivers may have been overtaking dangerously. Investigations are under way.”

Meanwhile, the MEC for community safety, security and liaison, Jackie Macie, has called on all motorists to be cautious and obey the rules of the road so that crashes like these are minimised. “We all have a role towards being safe on the road,” says Macie.

The road has since been reopened for traffic.
