More suspected illegal immigrants nabbed near Malalane

Targeted police operations in the Nkomazi District continue to yield successes.

More suspected illegal immigrants were arrested at a roadblock on the N4 near Malalane this morning, August 14.

This as Operation Basadi, involving the SAPS, the Department of Home Affairs, the Mpumalanga and Nkomazi traffic departments, correctional services, community policing forums and Cartrack resumed here.

With the N4 being the main arterial road heading to and from Mozambique and often reportedly being used to move stolen vehicles, stolen goods and illegal immigrants, the decision was made to set up a roadblock.

This also resulted in two men, one carrying cannabis on a public transport vehicle and the other in possession of counterfeit goods, being arrested.

The operation focused on tracing suspects wanted in connection with serious crimes such as rape and domestic violence, as well as checking up on parolees to make sure they were adhering to their parole conditions, as it was understood that certain parolees had committed crimes while out on parole.

The operation, led by the acting Ehlanzeni police commissioner, Major General Dorah Xaba, and supported by the acting provincial head, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, featured predominantly women officers and began with a parade on the N4.
