Missing KNP helicopter found, crew safe
A helicopter assisting a rhino crime scene investigation in Mpumalanga that went missing was found with all four occupants.
The helicopter that went missing with four occupants has been successfully located, with all individuals found alive and unharmed.
The crew included the pilot, two SAPS forensic investigators, and a SANParks environmental investigator.
SANParks spokesperson JP Louw explained that the helicopter had been deployed to assist with a crime scene investigation following the discovery of rhino carcasses.

“Preliminary reports indicate that the helicopter landed in a densely vegetated area to allow the team to conduct ground assessments. During the operation, the group reportedly became disoriented due to the thick bush, and the GPS device ran out of battery power, preventing them from relocating the helicopter,” Louw said.
He added that contact with the crew was re-established this morning through aerial and ground search teams, supported by advanced technology to navigate the challenging terrain.
SANParks confirms that all four occupants are now safe and healthy.
