All you need is Love

All you need is Love is a beautifully written and illustrated coffee-table book that captures stories of great love, tragedy and triumph, told to White River Care Buddies. Author Jayne Bauling has done a brilliant job of transforming them into an inspiring read.

Yvonne Mcheath had a dream.  To capture the memories of the elderly ladies and gentleman who the White River Care Buddies visit every week.  With persistence and faith that never waivered, Yvonne’s dream came to fruition in the form of a beautifully written and illustrated coffee-table book.  All you need is Love was recently presented at a well-attended book launch, hosted at Casterbridge Arts Performance Centre.

Yvonne conscripted the brilliant Jayne Bauling to record the stories and transform them into a meaningful read.  Jayne is more famous for her award-winning fictional novels and this is one of only a few non-fiction books she’s produced.  “It was a deeply enriching experience,” says Jayne.  “Some stories were very moving, some very funny.  It’s a small community so there were many over-lapping stories.”

The event was attended by an array of sponsors who made generous donations towards the cost of producing the book, as well as friends of Care Buddies who gave of their talents, time and effort to assist Yvonne. Table snacks at the book launch were kindly sponsored by the Grove Spar.

“I hope this book inspires people to become a care buddy – not just through our organisation but on their own accord; to be aware of the difference you can make to an elderly person.”

Every week, at least 150 Care Buddies visit senior citizens in their homes and spend quality time with them.  They also organise outings and entertainment, remember birthdays and much more.  On these visits they listen to stories of great loves, tragedies and triumphs.  The Care Buddies of White River are a moving example that, if you want to validate someone, all they need love.

All you need is Love is not only for friends and family of the senior citizens whose stories have been captured; it’s a humbling and inspiring read for everyone.  Copies of the book can be purchased from Dit&Dat shop (Main Street, White River) or call Yvonne Mcheath: 076-903-0660.
