Barberton girls go to SA championship

Two learners from Barberton High School have been selected to be part of the Mpumalanga team that is currently participarting in the ongoing South African Netball Championship.

The tournament got underway on Monday in Boksburg, Gauteng and will be was concluded on Thursday.

Maryke Pieters, the school’s marketing officer wished the two players, Karilota Zulu and Busisiwe Malinga, luck for the tournament.

She said they wish to thank Barberton Mines for its sponsorship which made it possible for them to go on this tour.

“We really appreciate Barberton Mimes for everything it does for our school. We are happy with its support. Barberton Mines is making a huge difference in various places. And as a school, we want to play a role in shaping the future of our youth and we have learnt that through sport we can achieve that. It has the potential to unite people of all races and learners who participate in sport are healthier and are more academically successful,” said Pieters.

Meanwhile, the school’s under-15 rugby team recently played their semi-final match in the Mpumalanga League against Volkrust High School.

It was held at Uplands College’s field. Barberton narrowly won the nail-biting encounter with 22-19 after scoring a try in the last five minutes.

The boys will play their final match of the year against Nelspruit Curro in the next school term.
