Market once again offers the best and then some to locals
There is nothing quite like a visit to Bagdad Farmer's Market on a crisp, sunny Saturday morning. Although this month's market fell on the same weekend as the Innibos Festival, it was still a massive success, as many community members flocked to the much-loved event to see what was on offer.
The morning began with many grabbing a delicious freshly brewed cup of coffee from Sabie Valley pure farm-coffee stall.
With many little stalls to choose from for a delicious grab-and-go breakfast, one can never be disappointed. Many found a comfy spot under the sun to sit in, while enjoying their food, drinks and the warm atmosphere and cheer that the market seems to bring on the second Saturday of every month.
Jayden Almirall, a local musician from White River, entertained the crowds with his golden oldies and country-folk music that he performed. The sound of the acoustic guitar and his talented voice carried the music all through the Bagdad Centre for everyone to delight in.
One of the many highlights of the market, is always the huge variety of stalls and items to purchase. This Saturday a favourite among marketgoers was the Abanqobi (meaning conquerors) stall, which sold key rings, as well as gifts, wine and shopping bags. All the items are made by orphans and vulnerable children who are taught life and crafting skills in order to be able to generate their own income one day.
Other favourites included the Plantsman Stall which was selling honey, nuts and mouth-wateringly good, fresh berries, and delectable olive products from the Breede River Valley in the Western Cape, which you could sample as you passed by, as well as the eva.mia stall, which served an array of freshly baked Greek treats with the list toppers being the baklava and tiropita (a cheese pie).
All attending thoroughly enjoyed the weather, atmosphere, goodies for purchase, and socialising among friends and family
