Patients pick Lowveld Hospital as the best – again
It is the second consecutive year that Lowveld Hospital has been rated number one on Discovery Health's top-20 list.
MBOMBELA – Lowveld Hospital has retained the number-one spot on Discovery Health’s annual top-20 hospital list.
It is the second consecutive year that the hospital has been rated number one in the three years the survey has been done.
Only eight other hospitals have managed to consistently feature in the top 20, which is compiled according to Discovery patients’ feedback.
Unlike previous years, this year Discovery only published an alphabetical list of the top-20 hospitals.
The detailed results were, however, published on its website and available to members. According to these, Lowveld Hospital scored an approval rating of 93 per cent, higher than any other hospital.
CEO Armand van der Merwe said the competition for a top-20 position was becoming tougher each year, as more people have started paying attention to the Discovery hospital survey results.

He attributed the hospital’s success to its staff members. In his opinion, they are a special group of people, each extremely proud of the hospital.
Chairman Dr Attie van Wyk commended all of the staff members and doctors. He noted the importance of this accolade as it proved that patients can get top-quality health care right here in Mbombela.
He also expressed his gratitude towards the community for rewarding the hospital with such positive feedback.
Senior nursing officer, Sr Christine Crous agreed that the continued high ranking was due to the staff. “They do all the hard work,” she said.
“Lowveld Hospital will continue to innovate in order to provide our patients with a unique, caring experience during their personal journey as a patient,” Van der Merwe concluded.
