Visitors to use temporary restaurant facilities in Kruger

SANParks terminated power supply to the restaurant outlets in Letaba, Satara and Olifants restaurants in Kruger National Park on 21 September.

Following an on-going dispute with Ringgold Companies, the operators of outlets in Letaba, Satara and Olifants restaurants in Kruger National Park, South African National Parks (SANParks) terminated power supply to all three restaurants on 21 September following the arbitrators awarding in favour of SANParks on the matter, SANParks said in a statement on Thursday.

“Ringgold was requested to vacate the premises in terms of the arbitration award and a letter of demand was sent to their attorneys of record to settle its utilities account by 18 September 2017, which it failed to do,” said SANParks Head of Communications, Janine Raftopoulos,

This is following a host of complaints by guests related to the quality of service experienced by guests at the above mentioned rest camps. “There are already temporary restaurant facilities in place to provide services to customers in each of the rest camps.

The ongoing dispute between Ringgold and SANParks is around the lawfulness of Ringgold’s continued occupation of the restaurant facilities at the rest camps. “On 24 July an arbitrator issued an award confirming termination by SANParks of the PPP Agreements with Ringgold in respect of the three rest camps with effect from 15 July 2015. Ringgold challenged the validity of the award whereas SANParks seeked the enforcement thereof,” according to SANParks General Manager: Legal Services Department Delsey Fahlaza Monaledi.
