Ambitious 1.7 metre model making a name for herself in the industry
A local model is setting out to prove that one need not be tall to reach for the stars.

MBOMBELA – Shernice Ground (20) was recently able to fulfil one of her long-time dreams when she modelled for David Tlale’s new spring-summer 2017/2018 Infusion collection at the Mercedes-Benz fashion week three weeks ago.

Shernice only started to seriously pursue her career after she finished school. “My mom was adamant that I finish my education first. That is why I only started to get seriously into modelling after school.”

In 2015 Shernice signed on with Just You Model and Artist Management. Shernice recently left the agency to sign up with Isis Models.
According to Shernice, her agent has been instrumental in the furthering of her career. “She really goes out of her way when it comes to securing castings and shoots which can further my modelling career. I trust her completely with my career and the direction it must take.”

While Shernice indicated that she loved the limelight of the runway, she also explained that modelling was not always as glamorous as it seemed.
“Most of the work involves long hours, lots of standing and having to pose for the camera all day. As a model, you have to constantly diet to remain trim and healthy. This can be difficult, especially for a food lover like me.”
Reflecting on the future, Shernice indicated that she was hoping to have her own agency in the next five to 10 years.

If this dream comes to fruition, she would then be able to give other girls of a similar height the chance to pursue their dreams. “Anything is possible if you set your mind to it. I do not believe in quitting, and I don’t think anyone else should either. The key is hard work. The harder you work, the closer you will get to achieving your dreams.”
