Local art market attracts more than 70 exhibitors

More than 70 exhibitors displayed their goods at the art market on Saturday at the AFM Communio Church.

Most of these artists were from Gauteng, exhibiting ceramics, jewellery, furniture, decor, leather work, gifts, delicious food and snacks, and much more.

This popular week-long annual market was well-attended by hundreds of local people who came to buy their favourite goods.

At the weekend, Petro Derks, who specialises in homemade perfume, said it was her first time being invited to showcase her work. “I sell perfume for both men and women. It is not only about that. I also provide advice to my customers, because most people do not know that you need to match your perfume with your skin tone and your hair,” said Derks.

She said her ingredients are safe to be used. “I use a special oil, most of them are used in beauty products. It takes me a couple of hours to make one perfume. I put them in a fridge before they are ready to be applied.”

Derks hopes to return again next year to sell her work at the market.

“Being a part of these exhibitions empowers most of us. It encourages us to work and helps us to sell more of our products.”

The exhibition has been among the must-do events in September at the church over the past years.
