Hindus celebrate Navarathri festival in honour of Durga

During the festival period people come together and pray for nine days.

MBOMBELA – Hindus across the globe are currently celebrating the Navarathri festival. It started on September 21 and it will continue until the end of the month.The festival celebrates Durga who is the supreme energy of the Godhead symbolised as the mother of God.

Prayers are focused around the goddess’s victory over the buffalo-headed demon Mahishasura. In Hinduism, Mahishasura conquered the world and heaven and tortured the good and the angels. He was defeated after nine days of fighting with the goddess. This victory is celebrated with special worship on the 10th day, known as Vijaya Dasami.

Saraswathi Puja will be celebrated on Friday September 29  at the Valencia Temple in Geranium Street. Hindus and all interested parties are welcome to join. For all Enquiries contact Priest Shrinivasan on 082-854-4632.
