Communities need you to go that extra mile for them

The trail run will bring communities and conservation together and raise funds for Jabez Preschool.

The More Community Trust and Sabi Sand Pfunanani Trust will host the area’s first trail run on May 19.

This event hopes to bring communities and conservation together to raise awareness of their community initiatives and to raise funds for Jabez Preschool.

It will start at the Digital Learning Campus at Huntington Village at 08:00. The run goes through the communities of Huntington and Justicia, finishing on the soccer field adjacent to Hunt Digital Learning Campus and Hundzukani Primary School.

Says Michelle Scott, general manager of the More Community Trust: “We have the sensational Warrior Ric as master of ceremonies, fabulous food and beverage stalls and a beer tent to keep the festivities going.”

She invites Hazyview residents and friends to join them.

Some good sponsorship opportunities are also available:

• They have reserved 50 running tags for sponsored community members to compete. Anyone who would like to sponsor runners from the community, school pupils or a team of their own should contact Scott.

• There will be eight water points along the route available at a sponsorship of R2 000 each. “We would love our fellow NPOs to sponsor and manage the water points in order to spread our partnerships and goodwill,” Scott said. “We are arranging sponsored water and Coke for each point, and we’ll require the sponsors of the refreshments some face time at each point as well.”

• The organisers are creating running packs for each runner and would appreciate any sponsorship in the form of items or funds towards these.

• An auction will be held at the end to raise additional funds. Any ideas or sponsored items or packages for the auction would be well received.

All funds raised by the race will go to the expansion and operations of Jabez Preschool.

Entry fees are R500 for the 21-kilometre and R300 for the 10-kilometre race.
