LHS traffic congestion a danger to road users

An accident occurred when a parent was attempting to exit the entrance of Lowveld High School on Friday morning.

According to Emer-G-Med’s Martin Jeffrey, the accident happened at around 07:30.

“One of the parents attempted to cross Figtree Street during peak traffic time there. The parent must have taken a chance to cross without being able to see oncoming vehicles. That is when another vehicle collided with him.”

Jeffrey added that nobody was injured in the accident.

A parent of Lowveld High School complained to Nelspruit Post that the exit gate of the school was constantly closed, and this caused traffic congestion in Figtree Street when children were dropped off in the morning and picked up in the afternoon.

“If the exit gate is open, we can drive out at the traffic lights. This would allow traffic to flow freely out without having to exit and enter at the entrance before the lights. But they are constantly keeping it closed.”

Lowveld High School marketing manager, Natacha Bouwer said their exit gates were open during peak times.

“In the morning it is open for a short period and then closed at 07:30. For security reasons, we do not keep the gates open all day,” she concluded.
