Eight murders reported since January around the city
According to Hi-Tech Security Lowveld operations manager, Callum MacPherson, their Sitrep 24 system filed the murders for their statistics for the year. On their system, the first murder was a man who was killed in Mataffin on February 2.
The next was on February 17 when Lisl Nel was strangled to death in a robbery. Nicholas Magagula is the accused in her murder. The incident happened at a house on the eastern side of the Uitkyk Road. Nel had been working for a house-sitting company and was looking after the house while the owners were away. She was found face down in a ditch outside, strangled.

On June 24, the body of a Swazi citizen and known sex worker was found in Anderson Street. According to police spokesman Lt Col Erhard Stroh, it was discovered by a passer-by. She was found near the substation near the Department of Health’s building. Her body was found in the bush near a wall.
She had a black refuse bag over her head and was half naked. It looked like she had been hit over the head with a blunt object. No arrests have been made.
Hetta Potgieter (85) was killed on July 1 in her flat at Macadamia Care Centre. Her body was discovered the following morning on her bathroom floor. The suspects were alleged to have entered the premises by asking for a glass of water. She had been suffocated and her hands were tied behind her back with cellphone cables. The cause of death was determined as suffocation. Shaun Oosthuizen, John du Plooy and Maryna Vorster were arrested for her murder.
Themba Nkosi was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed one of eight men who were trying to rob him in the early hours of July 29 at Anderson Street. He had gone out on Saturday night with his girlfriend when the incident occurred.
According to a source, Nkosi was at Club H2 when an argument started. He had left his gun in the car, which was parked a few metres from the club. A fight broke out while he was inside. He then went outside to get his gun and he fired a warning shot before shooting the victim. The people he was fighting were allegedly planning to rob him. The day after the incident occurred a second man, who is said to have been friends with the victim, was found dead in his room. The cause of death was unknown.
The body of Nation Ntimane (26) was discovered in his neighbour’s yard at around 08:00 on September 17 by the neighbour’s domestic worker. He had a stab wound to the right side of the chest, which must have caused internal bleeding. People on the scene said Ntimane had been socialising with the neighbours on Sunday afternoon. He decided to leave and go to Lekazi for a party. Afterwards someone saw a black Jeep drop him off at around 22:00. The driver of the Jeep and Ntimane were allegedly heard arguing by the neighbours, who also heard a bang. No arrests have been made as yet.
Danish submariner gets life sentence for murder of journalist Kim Wall
John Bosman was shot and killed in his home on October 2. John had been watching TV in the lounge when three unknown suspects entered his home. He had called out to his wife Leigh who was in the bedroom to lock the door and hit the alarm. A scuffle ensued and a gunshot went off. He was found dead at the scene with a gunshot wound to his chest and knife marks on his arms. The suspects dropped their loot and fled the scene as security officers arrived.
