Hazyview under the eyes of Sitrep24 system

Most reports confirmed that homes and plots were targeted, with the majority occurring in the afternoon or between 21:00 and 02:00.

Hi-Tech White River and Hazyview now use Sitrep24, a system that determines possible criminal activity based on past incidents and information. This has been made possible by a MRA Insurance Brokers’ sponsorship.

Statistics gathered over 12 months indicate that most business robberies occurred in the Dikai and Lowveld Mall area.

Wednesdays to Fridays are the days that most incidents were reported, with the most common days being Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 14:00 and 20:00.

Hi-Tech Hazyview and White River’s operations manager, Jchaan de Beer, said he attributes it to the fact that most businesses have large amounts of cash on the premises during these hours, making them easy pickings for criminals.

The standard modus operandi is that suspects will observe and gather information such as opening and closing times before and after lunch, security and SAPS visibility to use during such robberies.

They also determine routines before closing time.

Their main target is cash, cell phones and wallets. Suspects are known to station a vehicle nearby to ensure quick exits in the direction of Bushbuckridge and Mkuhlu areas.

With regards to business burglary, over the same period 14 incidents were reported. This translates to 1,16 each day.

House burglaries are more spread out, with only Mondays, Tuesdays and Sundays receiving less attention.

Most reports confirmed that homes and plots were targeted, with the majority occurring in the afternoon or between 21:00 and 02:00.

Sitrep24 enables Hi-Tech Hazyview and White River to determine where and when burglaries could occur. Contingency plans are built around the information they receive in an attempt to minimise the possibility of criminal activity. For this, they thank MRA Insurance Brokers.

Criminal groupings are more aggressive, focused and organised, and target homes and businesses with low to no security. Residence and business owners need to test their alarm systems and panic buttons on a monthly basis and have a security company conduct an assessment at their premises to ensure that all blind spots are covered by an alarm system.

It is of extreme importance that their control room is informed before an alarm and panic system is tested.
