Five killed in head-on collision near Nkomazi Plaza

Five people were killed in a head-on collision between two sedans between the Nkomazi Toll Plaza and Total filling station earlier tonight.

KAAPMUIDEN – A head-on collision between two sedans on the N4 resulted in five deaths earlier tonight. A 14-year-old girl was critically injured and was rushed to a hospital in Mbombela.

According to Moeti Mmusi of the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the incident took place around 19:15 today between the Nkomazi Toll Plaza and Total filling station.

Four of the victims were travelling in one of the sedans, while the fifth was from the other.

The road was closed for some time for recovery. By 21:40, Trac’s HelpDesk sent out an alert informing road users that a Stop-and-Go was put in place and recovery was still under way.

Motorists are urged to be extra vigilant, especially when travelling on the N4 through Nkomazi at night, as visibility is limited. Motorists are regularly spotted speeding and driving very recklessly between Kaapmuiden and the Lebombo Border Post, with some vehicles overloaded as well, which adds to the danger.
